We adopt a collaborative learning model where the learners and teachers actively partner to explore design challenges to achieve innovative solutions for all UG Programmes. Do not expect to be sitting at a desk listening to a lecture on how to do something. Instead, expect to be given a design brief, access to the latest product techniques and equipment, a team and be ready to experiment towards creating solutions.
Our PG programmes lays a strong emphasis on independent learning and research. They are also highly practical. Expect challenges, learning by doing and learning through getting things wrong. Our PG programmes emphasizes research as a pedagogical tool to help develop skills, and deep content understanding to define their independent line of enquiry. The skills acquired in doing research covers problem identification, framing research questions, designing and planning, problem solving techniques, team working, interaction with reality, writing reports and presentation. Our faculty will guide students to identify what they are interested in and what sparks their passions. There will be constant discussion with peers and teachers on how to ask good research questions. This basic question then develops into an idea through brainstorming and collaborating. Students are then targeted towards self-directed study to research for the information needed and are guided and assessed to progress until they resolve the problem.
Our students assume a high degree of autonomy in their work and direct their own learning process. This will take the form of leading or making meaningful contributions to design outputs, preceded by independent preparation through course work and class assignments. Our programmes are delivered with a high degree of application of knowledge built into the learning experience. This involves lectures, complemented by independent student work, individual and group- based collaborative projects and assignments. Engagement with real in-house projects is central to developing our students’ analytical skills and problem-solving ability and enhancing their employability.
As our programmes lead to university degrees, you can expect to be formally assessed and graded by the University. You will be expected to use your highly practical assignments as part of your learning. You will research design and create solutions and then evaluate your own solutions. In addition, your assignment work will go towards your individual portfolio of work. This portfolio will showcase your work to prospective employers.
We believe that the learning has to be in the real-life industry context and this means that experts and practitioners are closely involved throughout the student’s learning journey. Through regular masterclasses, demo sessions, real time projects, sharing of experiences and guest lectures by leading specialists from the creative industries.
